Restaurant Night
Our first restaurant night of the year will be Tuesday, Sept 26th at the Chocolate Shoppe in Fitchburg.  Enjoy some ice cream, see your friends from Leopold and support a local business.

Fall Fiesta 2017
Saturday, September 23rd, 11 am to 2 pm
The Leopold Elementary Parent Faculty Organization will be hosting a carnival style fundraiser, Fall Fiesta 2017, on Saturday, September 23rd from 11 am to 2 pm. This fun family event will include a raffle, games, loteria, cakewalk, balloons, face painting, a dunk tank, popcorn, cotton candy, music, and food carts. In order to make this event a huge success, we are asking for the help of our Leopold parents and family members.   Please consider helping by volunteering at the event.

Volunteer Opportunities
Everyone has an opportunity to participate in ways large and small. Volunteer for a one-time event or consider an on-going position. There are many ways to help with PFO that are flexible and utilize the time and talents you have. Participating with the PFO is a great way to get involved and make a difference at Leopold. 

Here are just a few ways you can get involved:

PFO President: The PFO Board is in need of a president! The President organizes and leads both Board and General Meetings, sends out regular communication, may serve as a representative to school and/or district level committees, oversees and engages in various event committees, and is often the point of contact for outside groups looking for additional information.

Spanish Translation: Are you fluent in Spanish and English? The PFO needs someone to help with Spanish translation of the PFO General Meeting minutes. PFO General Meetings occur on the second Tuesday of the month. Minutes would be sent to you in English with a rough Spanish translation that would need correction.

Math curriculum materials: Leopold is implementing a new math curriculum and needs some help with preparationincluding cutting and organizing new materials.

Spring-cleanup
Leopold Spring Clean-Up Day
Our annual spring grounds cleanup will be held this Saturday, April 29, from 9:00-11:30. This is a chance for families to come together, help clean up our school grounds, and take pride in our Leopold community. Gwen Schrader is coordinating the cleanup again this year, so be sure to check in with Gwen when you arrive and see what you can do. No tools required but rakes, gloves, and gardening tools are helpful. There will be jobs for all ages.

Leopold Staff Appreciation Luncheon - Tuesday, May 2
Staff appreciation week is May 1-5.  This is a great time to thank your favorite teachers and staff at Leopold. Please help us show our appreciation to the Leopold staff by contributing to the all staff luncheon.  This year Liliana's Restaurant of Fitchburg will be preparing sandwiches for the staff. Backpack flyers went home last week. Please fill them out and return them to school. We are also looking for volunteers to staff the event.  Your time and generosity is appreciated!

Please join us for our final PFO meeting of the 2016-2017 school year on Tuesday, May 9th at 6:00pm in the Leopold Library.  We'll review our engagement with the school during the year and look ahead to next year.

Box Tops Collection
Don't forget our final Box Tops collection for the year will be May 12. Funds raised through Box Tops this year will go to playground and recess activities to encourage a fun, safe and engaging recess time.

​Calling all Timber Wolves!   
It is time to prepare for the annual Timber Wolf Trample! The race is on Saturday, May 13, 2017. This is our largest fundraiser of the school year.  Students and staff participate in race and race day events and always have a great time.   After the race, there is a picnic lunch for Leopold students and families organized by a volunteer group called "The Bridge." It is not possible to hold such a large event without volunteers so please take a look and see how you could help make this a great event.  We welcome parents, staff, and older siblings to help us out. Please view the sign-up.  Feel free to contact Becky Bell if you have any questions.

Timber Wolf Trample
​T-shirt Design Winner!
Congratulations to our Timber Wolf Trample T-shirt design winner, Alan Hernandez, a third grade student in Ms. Nelson's class.  Alan's design will be featured on our 2017 Timber Wolf Trample T-shirts.  T-shirts are given to all students with at least $15 in sponsorships and can be purchased for $15 in child and adult sizes.

PFO Meeting March 14
​Our next PFO Family Meeting will be held at 6:00 pm on March 14. We will be hosting Alex Fralin, MMSD Chief of Secondary Schools, to talk about the MMSD Adolescence Experience Project. This is a district study to identify modifications to the curriculum and structure of our middle schools. These changes will impact your elementary students when they enter middle school after the next 2-3 years. Your feedback will help the district move forward with the project. Child care will be provided.

Timber Wolf Trample T-shirt Contest
​Our Annual Timber Wolf Trample fundraiser will be held on Saturday, May 13. Each year, students can enter their designs for our race-day t-shirt. The winning design will be selected by our Leopold students and staff. Forms will be going home soon, but if you want to get started, you can download a form on the PFO Website.

​Box Top Winner
Congratulations to Maestra Pacheco's second grade classroom for collecting the most box tops for our winter collection.  We are working toward a goal for the year of 14,000 Boxtops.  Maestra Pacheco's class will get a party.  Keep collecting those box tops for one more collection in May.

Congratulations, Leopold Math Fest Team!
Leopold's Math Fest Team of 4th and 5th graders placed 3rd out of all teams from competing Madison schools.   Leopold Math fest competitors were  Armani Stovall, Aaron Morales, Jonah Simonson, Ryan Schiessl, Anthony Marino, Debanaire Lumpkin, Pierson Trapskin, and Xander Godar.

Felicidades al aula de segundo grado de Maestra Pacheco por coleccionar la mayoría de las cajas para nuestra colección de invierno. Estamos trabajando hacia una meta para el año de 14.000 Boxtops. ​Teacher Treat Day
Please help us thank our staff for all they do by contributing a snack or treat on Wednesday, December 21.  Contribution forms have been sent home in your student's backpack or can be found on the PFO Bulletin Board in the lobby.  Turn in your form into the PFO mailbox by Tuesday, December 20 and bring snacks and treats to the office on Wednesday morning December 21.

The next PFO General Meeting will be held on Tuesday, December 13th from 6:00-7:00pm in the Leopold Library. We will a have a few staff members join us to talk about how WIN (What I Need) time focuses on each student's learning needs during the school day.  Learn about how teachers use this time to help our students' academic growth.  We will be joined by our Interventionists (Ms. Lamont, Ms. Michaelis and Ms. Watt), Cross-Categorical teachers (Ms. Belakhdar), and Advanced Learning instructional teacher (Ms. Baran).  If these positions are unfamiliar to you, this is a great time to learn about the many important roles filled by our dedicated staff.  Childcare will be provided.

The next restaurant night will be November 16th at Dairy Queen in Fitchburg. Purchases made that evening will support our local Dairy Queen and Leopold Elementary.

MULTICULTURAL NIGHT
Our Leopold Community School presents a Multicultural Night on December 6th from 6:00-7:30 p.m.
We will celebrate the diverse cultures, countries and traditions that come together at Leopold Elementary School.  There will be booths/tables throughout parts of the school displaying art, clothing, flags, pictures & information about many different countries, traditional foods from a variety of cultures, diverse music and entertainment.  Classrooms have also been invited to display student work to show what students are learning about cultures. 
Come pick-up your Leopold passport and travel with us around the globe!
We invite and encourage ALL FAMILIES to share the food, music, dance, clothing, culture and art that represent your family's history and traditions!

Volunteer Opportunities
Remember that involvement in your student's school is welcome at any level, large or small and directly affects their experience in school. We would love to help you find the spot that works with your skills and time. Here are a just a few ways you can get involved this year:

Room Parent:  This is a great way to meet other families in your child's classroom and connect with the school at large.  Being a room parent does not require any in class time or monthly meetings, but does involve staying connected with the classroom teacher and the PFO Room Parent Coordinator.  Contact Kari Trapskin for more information.

Staff Appreciation:  Our staff appreciation coordinator organizes our two staff appreciation lunches during the year and stays on top of ways to connect with and recognize Leopold staff for their hard work with our kids.  This is a role that can be transitioned from our current coordinator throughout this year to assume responsibility for next year.

Focus Group at Leopold: Long Range MMSD Facility Planning
MMSD is in the process of developing tools to support long-range facilities planning called Building Excellence (https://accountability.madison.k12.wi.us/building-excellence).  The Office of Research, Accountability and Data Use will be hosting a focus group at Leopold for families and the community to help create guiding principles and priorities for MMSD planning.  This focus group will be held on Wednesday, November 30th.  All members of the community are welcome to attend.

PFO General Meeting: November 8
The next evening PFO Meeting will be November 8th from 6-7 pm in the Leopold Library. These meetings are a great way to meet other families and learn about how you can engage with your child's school.  We welcome ideas and questions from our families and will discuss the exciting upcoming events at our school. Childcare will be provided. Don't forget to vote before you come!

This year, MMSD elementary schools will have a new report card format for all students. To become familiar with the new measurements, check out these videos on the MMSD site.  They will walk through the changes so you and your student will be prepared for the new format.

Fall Fiesta
THANK YOU to everyone who volunteered and participated in our Fall Fiesta.  We had great weather and so many families and staff who made this event a success.  Special thanks to our Fall Fiesta committee members Angie Oler, Amy Jimieson, and Sara Pirnstill. We had a great discussion led by Principal Sloan, Neighborhood Officer Scott Beckfield, and MMSD Security Services Coordinator, Luis Yudice. The next evening PFO Meeting will be November 8th in the Leopold Library.

Fall Fiesta

The Leopold Elementary Parent Faculty Organization will be hosting a carnival style fundraiser, Fall Fiesta 2016, THIS WEEKEND, Saturday, October 8th from 10 am to 1 pm. This event will include a raffle, games, loteria, cakewalk, balloons, face painting, a dunk tank, popcorn, cotton candy, music, Chocolate Shoppe ice cream and the Let's Eat Out food carts. We are still looking for Leopold parents and family members to volunteer for the event!

Next PFO Meeting: October 11

The first PFO General meeting of the year will be Tuesday, October 11 from 6:00-7:00 pmin the Leopold Library.   This is a great way to learn more about opportunities to participate with your child's school and meet other families. This month's meeting will focus on Safety and Security at Leopold School.  Principal Sloan will be joined by representatives from MMSD Security, our Leopold neighborhood officer, and counseling support staff to discuss safety procedures at Leopold.  Please join this important discussion with our school community.   Free Childcare and refreshments will be provided.

​Picture Day Volunteers   
           
Picture day at Leopold will be Tuesday, October 18th. A few volunteers are needed to help at each station to get kids ready for their photos and keep the lines organized. Volunteers receive a $50 discount on their child's pictures. Please sign up here to volunteer.

Another school year is starting and there are so many ways to get involved at Leopold. All parents, family, caregivers and faculty have great opportunities to make a difference at our school.

Otro año escolar está empezando y hay muchas maneras de involucrarse en Leopold. Todos los padres, familiares, cuidadores y profesores tienen grandes oportunidades para hacer una diferencia en nuestra escuela.

Restaurant Night

Our first restaurant night of the year will be Tuesday, Sept 20th at the  Chocolate Shoppe in Fitchburg. Enjoy some ice cream, see your friends from Leopold and support a local business.

Fall Fiesta

The Leopold Elementary Parent Faculty Organization will be hosting a carnival style fundraiser, Fall Fiesta 2016, on Saturday, October 8th from 10 am to 1 pm. This event will include a raffle, games, loteria, cakewalk, balloons, face painting, a dunk tank, popcorn, cotton candy, music, Chocolate Shoppe ice cream and the Let's Eat Out food carts. In order to make this event a huge success, we are asking for the help of our Leopold parents and family members.   Please consider helping by volunteering at the event, donating an item for the raffle or by contributing a baked item for the cakewalk.

To volunteer for the Fall Fiesta, please sign up online here  or contact  Angie Oler ( 608-347-4768).  If you have an item or event to donate to the raffle, please contact Sara Pirnstill.  Check your student's backpack in the coming weeks for more information on this event. ​
Fiesta de Otoño

La Organización de Facultad y Padre de Leopold será el anfitrión de una recaudación de fondos de estilo carnaval, Fiesta de Otoño de 2016, el sábado, 8 de octubre de 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Habrá juegos, algodon de azucar, globos, tanque de mojarse, musica, helado, palomitas, rifa de pasteles, rifa, lotería, helado de Chocolate Shoppe y los carros de comida de Let's Eat Out.  Para hacer este evento un éxito, estamos pidiendo la ayuda de nuestros padres y miembros de la familia de Leopold. Por favor considere ayudar como voluntario en el evento, donando un elemento para la rifa o contribuyendo con un artículo al horno para la rifa de pasteles.

Volunteer Opportunities
Remember that involvement in your student's school is welcome at any level, large or small and directly affects their experience in school. We would love to help you find the spot that works with your skills and time. Here are a just a few ways you can get involved this year:

PFO Vice President:
The vice president of the PFO Board attends monthly PFO Family and Board meetings, oversees committees, and makes sure our calendar of events is available for all. This is a two year position.

Room Parent: 
This is a great way to meet other families in your child's classroom and connect with the school at large.  Being a room parent does not require any in class time or monthly meetings, but does involve staying connected with the classroom teacher and the PFO Room Parent Coordinator.  Look for more information soon and contact Kari Trapskin for more information.

Staff Appreciation: 
Our staff appreciation coordinator organizes our two staff appreciation lunches during the year and stays on top of ways to connect with and recognize Leopold staff for their hard work with our kids.  This is a role that can be transitioned from our current coordinator throughout this year to assume responsibility for next year. 


Special Skills or Talents: 
Do you have a special skill or interest that you would like to share at Leopold? The PFO can find a place for you!  Whether it's translation, coaching, IT, arts, etc., sharing these skills with your child's school is a fantastic way 
to get involved.
Oportunidades para Voluntarios
Recuerda que la participación en la escuela de su estudiante es bienvenido en cualquier nivel, grandes o pequeños, y afecta directamente a su experiencia en la escuela. Nos encantaría ayudarle a encontrar el lugar que funciona con sus habilidades y el tiempo. Éstos son sólo algunas maneras que usted puede participar este año:

Vicepresidente de PFO:
​El vicepresidente del Bordo de PFO asiste mensualmente a las reuniones de PFO para Familias y la Junta Directiva, supervisa comités, y se asegura que nuestro calendario de acontecimientos está disponible para todos. Este es una posición de dos años.

Padre de Salon:
Esta es una gran manera de conocer a otras familias de clase de su hijo y conectarse con la escuela en general. Al ser un padre de salón no requiere ningún tiempo en clase o reuniones mensuales. Esta consiste en estar conectado con el maestro y el Coordinador de Padres del PFO. Busque más información en breve y en contacto con Kari Trapskin para más información.

Apreciación de Personal:
 Nuestro coordinador de apreciación personal organiza nuestras comidas de agradecimiento de dos miembros del personal durante el año y se organiza sobre maneras de conectar con y reconocer personal de Leopold por su arduo trabajo con los niños. Esto es un papel que puede ser la transición de nuestro coordinador actual a lo largo de este año para asumir la responsabilidad para el próximo año.

Habilidades especiales o talentos:
¿Tiene una habilidad especial o interés que le gustaría compartir en Leopold? El PFO puede encontrar un lugar para usted! Ya se trate de la traducción, entrenador, informática, artes, etc., compartiendo estas habilidades con la escuela de su hijo es una manera fantástica de involucrarse.
