If you need a flyer for Leopold Night at Roman Candle on Thursday, October 17, you can print it here.
Hello Leopold Families. We have several new addresses added to our email list this week with the receipt of directory info. If you are receiving this email for the first time, this is a weekly email from the Leopold Parent Faculty Organization that provides updates on things going on at our school. We have a very busy week ahead so be sure to read the information below carefully for important dates and information!
Many thanks to those who attended, and those who donated to, An Apple Affair, our event last week that was held to raise money for iPads at Leopold. We made just over $3,500 that we will use to purchase additional iPads for our school.
We need volunteers!
We are in need of volunteers for many events at Leopold. Without the participation of our families, we cannot offer the great events we all enjoy. Please sign up online for the following events:

Come check out gunny sack races, face painting, cake walk, dunk tank, pumpkin launch, craft and music demonstrations, great food, live music and much more! See above to sign up for a volunteer shift. We ask that all Leopold families to take at least one volunteer shift - this is an event of many, not just a few! Feel free to bring grandparents or older siblings to help volunteer or hang out with your Leopold student. If we don't have enough volunteers, we won't be able to offer all of our fun activities.
A wrist band will be required for anyone over 3 years old and older to attend Harvest Fest, including parents. Wrist bands are $5 and will allow you to participate in all Harvest Fest activities. Food and prize drawing tickets will be available for additional purchase. Food and prize drawing tickets are $1 each at the door or 6/$5 if ordered ahead of time. Order forms can be found here and are due October 15:
Prize Drawing Donations are due on Monday, October 14. These items are put into great baskets that will be available for prize drawings by event attendees. Box Top Due Date Correction
My previous email said BoxTop collection sheets were not due until November. That was incorrect! Box Top collection sheets are due Tuesday, October 15! The class that collects the most BoxTops will win a pizza party! BoxTops do NOT need to be on the collection sheet. It is helpful if they are sorted into groups of 25, but it is not necessary, we will take them any way! If you need a new BoxTop collection sheet, you can print one here:

Regular, monthly PFO meetings will start in November. Please join us on Tuesday, November 19, from 7-8 pm in the cafeteria to talk about Common Core Standards, iPads in our school, and Leopold's School Improvement Plan (SIP).

Additional PFO Volunteer Opportunities
Lori Zink, our school nurse, needs volunteers to help with vision screening on October 17 and October 29. This is an easy and fun way to help out at school. Just a few volunteers are needed for each shift. An online sign is available here: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/409084AACAE2CA13-vision
And last but not least, there is one more volunteer spot to fill for picture retake day, which will be held on November 8. That sign up can be found here:
http://www.signupgenius.com/go/409084AACAE2CA13-picture2. Thanks to those of you who came out to volunteer for picture day last week!

If you are interested in really making a different in the life of a Leopold student, we have a number of students who are in need of lunch buddies. The lunch buddies program, run by Social Worker, Sandra Rivera and Vista volunteer, Adam Emmert, helps pair kids who might benefit from some one-on-one adult interaction and positive conversation. Volunteers would spend lunch and the lunch recess with a student, both eating and then doing an activity of mutual agreement such as an indoor or outdoor game, etc. Lunch and recess times vary for different grades, but placements can be made from 11-1. Volunteers can choose to spend 30 minutes (with one student) to an hour (with two students back to back) one or more days a week. If anyone is interested or knows someone who might be interested, please let Adam Emmart know. There is an application and disclosure to fill out to be a lunch buddy. Please contact Adam at firstname.lastname@example.org if you are interested in helping a student in this way!
Early Childhood Resource Fair
The Madison Early Childhood Council will host an Early Childhood Resource Fair on Tuesday, October 29 from 6-8 pm at Leopold. There will be activities including screening and resources as well as face painting, pizza and prizes.
Thanks everyone! Hope to see you tomorrow night at Lilliana's! Have a great week.
The PFO emails are posted on this blog.
